Mike James has been out of CSKA Moscow‘s active roster since late March after coach Dimitris Itoudis suspended him indefinitely and the sides have been working on parting ways.

James’ agent confirmed recently that the player has left for the United States in order to pursue an NBA opportunity already this season and that chance may come sooner rather than later.

According to the New York Post, the Knicks have been interested in adding Mike James to the roster since John Henson’s contract expired and opened up a free spot in the backcourt. Alec Burks being put under health and safety protocols may also impact the final decision.

It should also be noted that, while suspended and ‘on leave’, the player still has a contract with CSKA until 2023 which got penned last summer. That said, the Russian team is willing to accommodate him and release him in order to get an NBA deal.

The 30-year-old guard has been averaging 19.3 points and 4.7 assists in 27 EuroLeague games. As a member of the Phoenix Suns back in the 2017-18 season, he averaged 10.4 points per game.
