New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson is nearing a five-year rookie max contract extension worth up to $231 million, per the Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Williamson’s new deal will expire in the summer of 2028 and the young star despite not delivering yet on the court remains one of the faces of the NBA, having also the full support of the Pelicans.

Plagued by injuries, the young star has played so far a total of 85 games in two seasons, while he stayed out of action for the whole 2021-22 season.

Williamson hasn’t stepped on the floor since May 4, 2021, and a 108 – 103 Pelicans win over the Golden State Warriors. He had 23 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists in that match.
