Serbian national team guard Stefan Jovic suffered a muscle rupture in Wednesday’s (30/6) win over Philippines in the Olympic Qualifiers, the Serbian Basketball Federation announced. According to a report by Mozzart Sport, the injury will need a rehabilitation period of five to seven weeks, which means that Jovic won’t be able to make the Olympics if Serbia advances to Tokyo.

Jovic was forced to exit the game after a non-contact injury during a drive attempt in the fourth period. “It would be better if we lost to the Philippines than if we lost Jovic,” his teammate Milos Teodosic said after the game.

Serbia was already missing Nikola Milutinov, Vladimir Lucic, Nemanja Nedovic, Marko Guduric, Miroslav Raduljica , Vanja Marinkovic and Ognjen Jaramaz in the Olympic Qualifiers, along with Nikola Jokic who decided to skip national team games this summer.
