Spain forward Juancho Hernangomez won’t be able to play in the Olympic Games. According to a report by Marca, the Minnesota Timberwolves didn’t approve their player’s participation in the Olympics following his shoulder injury, despite being cleared for action following the latest medical tests.

Valencia forward Xabi Lopez- Arostegui will replace Hernangomez who is on his way back to Spain.

Hernangomez suffered a grade 4-5 acromioclavicular dislocation in his left shoulder during a prep game against France early in July. While it was initially announced that he’ll miss Olympics, he he made a progress in his recovery that allowed him to travel to Tokyo with the rest of the national team.

Willy Hernangomez, Juancho’s older brother and also member of the Spanish national team reacted to the news by tweeting “#FreeJuancho FFG.”

Spain is beginning the tournament against host Japan Monday (26/7).
