Team USA confirms strength with initial squad for the Olympic Games

Bam Adebayo, Devin Booker, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Haliburton, Jrue Holiday, LeBron James, and Jayson Tatum are set to join forces in Paris this summer.

Finalizing the squad for the 2024 Olympic Games, Team USA considers those 11 players as locks for the team coached by Steve Kerr, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. One roster spot left open corresponds to training camp and exhibition games, attending players vying to complete the squad, as noted by Woj.

Other members of the Player Pool announced in January are Jarrett Allen, Paolo Banchero, Desmond Bane, Scottie Barnes, Mikal Bridges, Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Jimmy Butler, Alex Caruso, De’Aaron Fox, Paul George, Aaron Gordon, James Harden, Josh Hart, Tyler Herro, Chet Holmgren, Brandon Ingram, Kyrie Irving, Jaren Jackson Jr., Cam Johnson, Walker Kessler, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, Chris Paul, Bobby Portis, Austin Reaves, Duncan Robinson, Derrick White, and Trae Young.

Following preparations and completion of the squad, Team USA will compete in Group C of the preliminary round of the Olympic Games. The opponents en route to a potential berth in the Quarterfinals are Serbia, South Sudan, and the winner of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in San Juan, one of Bahrain, Cote d’Ivoire, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.

Dominating the men’s Olympic basketball tournaments, the United States secured gold in each of the last four Olympic Games and further topped the playing field in 16 of a total of 20.
