Pau Gasol, former Spanish basketball player and one of the best Europeans in the history of the sport, has become the new Chair of the IOC Athletes’ Commission.
The five-time Olympian and three-time Olympic medalist is excited to start a new chapter, which he shared on social media.
“I assume this responsibility as an honor and an opportunity to lead our Commission with pride and excitement, fully committed to working hard on behalf of the athletes. Thank you for your trust and support. The stronger we are together, the greater our achievements will be.”
In his rich career, Gasol played twice for Barcelona, while in the NBA he played for the LA Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs, and Milwaukee Bucks.
He was a two-time NBA champion and participated in the All-Star game six times. With Spain, among other achievements, he won three gold medals at the European Championships and one gold at the World Championships.
