Uncertainty follows canceled season in Lithuania

Disagreements between agents and Lithuanian teams are emerging, according to 15min and Donatas Urbonas. The decision to cancel the 2019-20 season caught the players and their representatives off guard.

The report adds that teams will very likely try to avoid paying the players for the remaining months of the season. Entering unprecedented territory, players from various LKL clubs contacted their agents wondering what will happen with their salaries.

It seems like a legal conflict is forming with teams arguing force majeure due to the early and unexpected conclusion of the 2019-20 season. Agents’ reply force majeure was not the case.

The coronavirus pandemic is forcing leagues, players, even agents to examine aspects of basketball they never before imagined. The Lithuanian league opting to cancel the season adds on the various issues that can unfold at every level of European basketball.
