Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv co-owner David Federman and GM Nikola Vujcic responded to the claims regarding their club trying to separate itself from the Israeli league. Hapoel Jerusalem CEO Guy Harel wasn’t happy with Maccabi prioritizing the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

“I am really surprised by this circus created,” said Vujcic to Sport5 and went on explaining, “Everybody was talking about playing EuroLeague in July. They all knew about this. They did this to create a circus attempting to react.”

Euroleague Basketball is set to announce its decision on the remainder of the 2019-20 season in the coming weeks. On its part, Maccabi clarified that if Turkish Airlines EuroLeague action resumes, the team will not compete in the final stage of its domestic league.

“They should have postponed this decision until we know clearly what will happen with EuroLeague,” Vujcic pointed out commenting on the Israeli League resuming in June, “They understand the situation. They want to put on us all the pressure.”

Federman still recovering from his heart surgery added on the reaction against Maccabi.

“I was annoyed by everyone acting like they don’t understand. It is amazing that anyone can say anything he wants,” he mentioned to ONE, “I am really sorry they reacted this way. It was inappropriate.”

In addition, Vujcic reflected on the investments made by Maccabi despite facing restrictions regarding squad requirements replying to a question on his side attempting to leave behind the Israeli league.

“The last ten years this club has sacrificed a huge amount of money and has had success playing under the restrictions of the Israeli league, created only to weaken Maccabi,” he answered, “We agreed for everything. No way Maccabi is now moving away.”
