Franz Wagner posts double-double in Sweet 16 triumph

Michigan advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament off the win, 76-58, against Florida State Sunday. German guard Franz Wagner ranked himself among the top contributors with a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double alongside five assists and one rejection. The Seminoles had no response to the effective inside offense peaking for the winning side in the second half. Swiss Anthony Polite had nine points and Serbian Balsa Koprivica seven for the losing side.

French guard Joel Ayayi was the second European upstart moving on to the Elite Eight with Gonzaga after the 83-65 victory versus Creighton. The INSEP product chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds in the Sweet 16 contest.

Estonian Carlos Jurgens finished with 13 points and Latvian Francis Lacis with 11 for Oral Roberts suffering a heartbreaking defeat, 72-70, to Arkansas. A late jumper by Davonte Davis made the difference for the Razorbacks.

Two more Europeans bowed out as Dutch Jesse Edwards had five points and six rebounds, and Slovakian Marek Dolezaj was held to two points for Syracuse in the loss to Houston, 62-46.
