Maccabi, other Israeli teams closer to getting back to normal

The Israeli government intends to lift more capacity restrictions on sports events held in approved facilities from May 6, as noted in the latest update of the Ministry of Health regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

The plan pending approval will allow all vaccinated and recovered fans in the gyms without limitations. Rapid tests outside most venues will be held for the unvaccinated fans. However, many health safety restrictions, as wearing masks and maintaining distance in public gatherings, will still apply.

The relief on health security measures can be a big financial boost for the Israeli teams in the bottom end of the 2020-21 season. Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv was among the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague teams suffering the most from reduced ticketing this season.

With the infection rate staying low, the Israeli government has already approved previous recommendations such as permitting people to go outdoors without wearing a mask.
