Zalgiris Kaunas extended its perfect start in Lithuania’s Betsafe LKL with the 97-64 victory over Siauliai-7bet on Sunday.

Tyler Cavanaugh put up a 15-point, 14-rebound double-double. Lukas Lekavicius followed with 14 points. Four more players scored in double-digits as Karolis Lukosiunas got to 12 points, and Marek Blazevic, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Arturas Milaknis all had 11 points. Mudiay logged all of his points in the first half, until suffering a left foot injury sidelining the former NBA player for the remainder of the game with a comfortable lead already in place.

Joffrey Lauvergne, Paulius Jankunas and Janis Strelnieks remained out for the team guided by Jure Zdovc. The French forward/center is expected to remain sidelined for three to five more weeks, while the other two injury list members are considered day-to-day with calf injuries.

Despite the missing players, the dominant Lithuanian League champions a couple of days after slipping to 0-4 in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague upped their LKL tally to 6-0. The next chance to get off the mark at the European level follows on Thursday against visiting FC Bayern Munich.

Jon Elmore poured the game-high 16 points for the losing side down to 2-3.

Uniclub – Juventus and Rytas Vilnius both carrying a 4-1 record are tied in second place trailing Zalgiris in the LKL standings. Cbet Jonava is fourth at 3-1.
