Lukas Lekavicius leads Zalgiris to 8-0 in Lithuania’s LKL

Zalgiris Kaunas struggling in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague added on its dominance in the domestic league with the 101-77 victory versus Labas Gas Prienai on Sunday.

Making 7/7 field goals, including 5/5 from beyond the arc, Lukas Lekavicius led the way with a game-high 19 points and also dished out four assists playing 22 minutes in the Betsafe LKL Regular Season game. Tyler Cavanaugh with 15 points and Edgaras Ulanovas with 12 points followed in the easy win upping the LKL W-L record to 8-0. Former Notre Dame and Connecticut standout Juwan Durham stood out for the Labas Gas packing 16 points.

Newcomer Zoran Dragic was not available. Injured players Emmanuel Mudiay, Janis Strelnieks, and Joffrey Lauvergne were also out. The team coached by Slovenian mastermind Jure Zdovc will be back in action on Friday hosting ALBA Berlin and aiming for the first win in the 2021-22 edition of the EuroLeague before the next domestic fixture against rival Rytas Vilnius.

Rytas, improved to 6-1 in the LKL as Mindaugas Girdziunas poured a game-high 22 points in the win, 100-68, over Nevezis-OPTIBET on Saturday. The team based in the Lithuanian capital is also 1-1 in a four-way tie with EWE Baskets Oldenburg, Besiktas Icrypex, and Hereda San Pablo Burgos painting the current picture in Group H of the Basketball Champions League Regular Season.

Uniclub Casino – Juventus carries a 5-2 record and Lietkabelis is 5-3 in the Lithuanian League settling in third and fourth place, respectively.
