Zalgiris welcomes newcomers, blows out Neptunas

Heading to the next two-game week of the 2022-23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season, Zalgiris made short work of Neptunas, 77-46, at Zalgirio Arena Sunday.

Newcomers Isaiah Taylor and Achille Polonara arrived in Kaunas but naturally did not suit up for Lithuania’s Betsafe LKL Regular Season fixture. Keenan Evans, Mantas Kalnietis, and Tyler Cavanaugh all stayed on the injury list.

Paving the way for the seventh win in the last eight showings at the domestic and continental levels, Ignas Brazdeikis poured a game-high 14 points with 6/9 field goals. Netting 5/6 from the field, Kevarrius Hayes followed with 11 points to his name. Captain Edgaras Ulanovas emerged late as the third double-digit scorer wrapping up a 10-point effort paired with seven rebounds, six assists, and one steal. Dovydas Giedraitis dished out four more assists.

The Kaunas outfit blew out Neptunas in the second half following a tight affair over most of the first 20 minutes. A former Zalgiris member, Matas Jogela ending up with 12 points was the top performer for the visiting side guided by yet another Zalgiris alumni Mindaugas Brazys.

From upping the league-leading record to 14-1, the team guided by Kazys Maksvytis switches directly into a road trip to Italy. A couple of EuroLeague matchups opposite Virtus Segafredo Bologna and EA7 Emporio Armani Milan Tuesday and Friday, respectively, targeting to improve the current 9-8 W-L tally.

Following Zalgiris on the LKL standings are Rytas and Uniclub Casino-Juventus at 10-4, and 7Bet-Lietkabelis and Wolves at 10-5.
