The Portugal Basketball Festival will officially return to the historic capital city of Lisbon on June 27th and 28th, 2026, marking its landmark sixth edition.

Since its inception in 2021, the tournament has grown exponentially, cementing its position as one of the largest and most prestigious youth basketball events in the country. This year’s edition is poised to deliver its most ambitious program yet, seamlessly blending elite youth athletic competition with cultural exchange, sustainability, and profound social inclusion.

What began five years ago as a visionary grassroots initiative has transformed into a premier fixture on the international youth sports calendar. The 2026 edition is scheduled to welcome more than 70 men’s and women’s teams, drawing approximately 1,000 participants aged between 14 and 22. Representing a diverse global tapestry, athletes will converge on Lisbon from 11 different countries, including the United States, Canada, Spain, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Bermuda, Belgium, France, Finland, and the host nation of Portugal. Over the course of the intensive two-day event, organizers anticipate attracting more than 4,000 spectators, tourists, and basketball enthusiasts, generating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere across the tournament venues.

The competition features an elite lineup of returning powerhouses and international programs. Highlighting the roster is SAWUSA, a selection of American university athletes returning to Lisbon for their sixth consecutive year, maintaining a perfect attendance record since the festival’s founding. Joining them is the national basketball team of Bermuda, bringing top-tier international flair to the court. Canada will be heavily represented by the Van City Academy, which is deploying four distinct teams to compete across multiple divisions. Additionally, the United Kingdom’s Bristol Storm is returning for its second appearance.

This event has always positioned itself as more than just a sports tournament; it is a foundational project driven by a mission of deep social impact, intentionally designed to act as an educational platform, promoting core human values such as mutual respect, diversity, and an unbreakable team spirit. By bringing together young people from vastly different cultural, socioeconomic, and geographical backgrounds, the festival fosters a unique environment of social integration and global citizenship.
