AS Monaco have formally asked the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) to urgently review their case, with the club expecting a negative ruling over their participation in the 2026-27 Betclic Elite season.
Although no official decision has yet been announced, the anticipated verdict would result in the reigning French champions being relegated from the country’s top division and is already reported by major French media outlets.
Monaco invoked Article 925 of the federation’s regulations, which allows a case to be reopened when significant new information emerges following an initial decision.
According to the club, its financial position has changed substantially since the Appeals Chamber examined the case on July 31. Monaco says it has taken steps to settle historical debts owed to suppliers and other third parties, while signed agreements have resulted in shareholders waiving a considerable amount of debt.
The club also revealed that a new investor has committed €10 million for the 2026-27 season. The submitted documents reportedly address the main concerns raised during the proceedings, including historical liabilities, agreements with creditors, obligations toward the EuroLeague and financial guarantees for the upcoming campaign.
“We are not asking for the rules to be changed for AS Monaco. We are asking for them to be applied to AS Monaco as it stands today,” the club stated, adding that it is prepared to accept additional financial monitoring or any conditions deemed necessary by the relevant authorities.
Monaco acknowledged that mistakes had been made and that the governing bodies had not previously received all the guarantees they were entitled to demand. However, the club believes the new evidence provides sufficient grounds for the case to be reassessed.
The Monegasque side completed the 2025-26 season by winning the French championship, French Cup, Leaders Cup and Super Cup, while also reaching the EuroLeague playoffs. Monaco stressed that its request is based on its changed financial circumstances rather than its sporting achievements.
The club is now asking the FFBB’s Federal Bureau to refer the case back to the Appeals Chamber as a matter of urgency and approve its participation in the 2026-27 Betclic Elite season.
