Zenit St. Petersburg head coach Xavi Pascual was named won the 2020-21 VTB League “Coach of the Year.” He becomes the first Spanish coach to claim the award.

Pascual’s Zenit was the best defensive team in the league (71.6 points per game by opponents) and finished the regular season in the first place in the standings after grabbing 20 wins in 24 games. Among the team’s victories was a sweep over defending champion CSKA Moscow.

“I want to thank the VTB United League for the recognition and for this big award,” said Xavi Pascual for VTB.  “Despite the fact that this trophy is individual, I would like to note that it belongs to the entire club – management, my assistants, players and, of course, our fans. This would not have been possible without them. From the very beginning of the season, we have made great efforts towards our goals, and the teamwork has paid off. Now we are looking forward: Very soon the VTB United League playoffs will be held, and we want to have a good start in them.”
