Zenit assistant hints at Pascual’s likely stay next season

Xavi Pascual has been linked with several EuroLeague clubs but it’s quite likely that he will stay with Zenit St. Petersburg despite the Russian team’s exclusion from European competitions, according to his assistant Inigo Zorzano.

“We have a contract but it doesn’t mean that we will stay. A lot of things can happen. But we will stay for sure in the next season. This is a question that I can’t answer. Xavi Pascual or the bosses of the team can answer. But we have a contract and we will stay here if nothing unusual happens.” Zorzano said in the presser after Game 7 of the VTB League Finals where Zenit won the championship title against CSKA Moscow.

Since Zenit and every other Russian club are expected to not participate in next season’s EuroLeague or play in any other continental league, Pascual has been rumored to be in contract with such powerhouses as Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Pascual just led Zenit to the first-ever VTB championship title in the history of the club. His team came back from a 1-3 deficit in the Finals vs. CSKA and closed the series with a road win in Game 7, even though the Spanish coach was ejected in the third quarter.
