Fotis Takianos takes over Astana

Shortly after parting ways with PAOK due to the team’s elimination by Aris in the quarter-finals of the Greek Cup Final 8, Fotis Takianos joined Astana, agreeing to continue the season as the head coach.

We are delighted to welcome Fotios Takiianos to Astana and wish him many victories with our team,” as announced by the VTB League outfit.

The Greek coach had been on the PAOK bench since last February and will now coach abroad for the fourth time in his career, having previously coached in Qatar, Cyprus, and Kosovo.

This is not the first time Astana has turned to a Greek coach to lead its team, as Ilias Papatheodorou, the current coach of Prometheus Patras, held the position in the 2016-17 season.

After 27 matches this season, Astana has a record of 10-27 and currently sits in fourth place in the second-stage Group B standings of the VTB League
