In the opening VTB League playoffs game, Khimki Moscow Region recorded a 79-66 road win against Lokomotiv Kuban.
Alexey Shved led the winning team by scoring a game-high of 20 points while Tyler Honeycutt added 16 and Anthony Gill 13 points. For the losing side, the only double-digit players were Mardy Collins with 14 and Dmitriy Kulagin with 10 points.
Both teams had great defensive efforts but what decided this game was the offensive focus and execution. The hosts game plan seemed to be scoring under the basket which was well defended by Khimki. On the other side, the winners stayed faithful to their three-point shooting and came out on top because of it. They scored 13 times from behind the arc (in comparison to six of the opponent) and because of that, they also created some space in the paint for easy points.
The second game of the series will be played on Saturday 26th of May as Khimki tries to increase the lead in front of their crowd.
