Unics Kazan beat Nizhny Novgorod 84-66 at home in Game 1 of VTB League quarterfinals without facing major troubles.

Both teams were fairly equal in all statistical categories but the three-point shooting decided the game as Unics scored nine triples in comparison to Novgorod’s three.

Melvin Ejim and Evgeniy Kolesnikov led the winning side with 16 points each while Stevan Jelovac was the most effective on the other side with 14 points.

The hosts created a double-digit advantage (25-15) after ten minutes of play which kept rising until the halftime break (41-26). Although Niznhy opened the second half with seven straight points, Unics reacted quickly after a timeout and secured the game leaving no chance for a comeback to the opponent.

Earlier the same day, Shved led Khimki Moscow Region to a road win against Lokomotiv Kuban. Game 2 in both matchups are scheduled for Saturday 26th of May.
