The big transfer target of Panathinaikos will remain in the NBA at least for one more season. Memphis Grizzlies decided to keep Nick Calathes for next season, using the team option in his contract and the Greek-American guard will not return this summer to Europe.
Calathes confirmed himself via twitter that he is staying in the States, missing a lucrative three years contract offer by the Greek champions. However, it was not his decision, as Memphis couldn’t find any better player in his modest price range (800.000 dollars for next season).
What remains to be seen is if Calathes’ ban will prevent him from playing in the upcoming FIBA World Cup, a decision which is expected to be announced in the following days by FIBA.
