ACB president Martin: The league will resume only if there are health guarantees for all

ACB president Antonio Martin emphasized that the plan to resume the Spanish League season will take place only if the organization receives the necessary health guarantees.

“We are in constant contact and coordination with the CSD (National Sports Council) since, above all, there’s something very clear: the competition will resume if there’s every health guarantee for players, coaches, referees, and other participants. If this isn’t possible we will end the season,” Martin mentioned in a statement by ACB.

The ACB clubs agreed to have a tournament with the participation of the 12 teams in the standings in a single venue. The teams will be divided into two groups from which the top two will advance to the semifinals. Then the final will decide the 2020 champion.

The final decision regarding either the resumption or the cancelation of the season must be taken until May 31.

“It’s a format that best fits the difficult situation we are in today and has also been unanimously agreed,” Martin said. “A unique schedule that, following strict protocols to ensure the maximum guarantees issued by health authorities, can determine the Liga Endesa champion in two weeks of play. We will study all proposals, taking health guarantees as the first criterion.”
