Bayern, Alba advance – BBL Semifinals are set

Despite a slow start, Bayern Munich quickly came back and in the end, won 90-70 against Frankfurt Skyliners in Game 5 of German BundesLeague quarterfinals, therefore, advancing to the semifinals.

The first ten minutes belonged to the guests as they created a double-digit lead (26-16) but that was all they could do. Bayern took over the lead already at the halftime (39-37) and kept the momentum going until the end of the game, securing it without major trouble.

Stefan Jovic led the victors with 19 points in addition to Jared Cunningham’s 15 points. For the losing team, Quantez Robertson tried to push his squad in 39 minutes of his playtime with 19 points while Philip Scrubb added 15 points.

Earlier the same day, Alba Berlin advanced to the semifinals after the fifth game against EWE Baskets Oldenburg as they won 85-68 in front of the home crowd.

Statistically, it was a fairly balanced game except for the personal fouls and free throws. The hosts shot 27 free throws (21 made) in comparison to Oldenburg’s ten attempts (eight made). Alba forced the opponent to foul 26 times while fouling only 13 times themselves.

Marius Grigonis led the winning side with 16 points while Joshiko Saibou and Niels Giffey added 15 each. On the other side, Rickey Paulding’s game-high 18 points weren’t enough to change the outcome.

After today games, the semifinal matchups were decided and are as follows:

Bayern Munich – Brose Bamberg

Alba Berlin – MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg
