Thomas Walkup out of EuroBasket 2025

After two straight summers with the Greek national team, the Olympiacos guard Thomas Walkup will sit out this year’s tournament, which for Greece starts on August 27 in Cyprus.

Walkup missed a large part of the season due to back problems but returned for the Final Four and Greek league finals. Given his recent injuries and heavy schedule since 2023, he and head coach Vassilis Spanoulis agreed to skip this summer so he can fully recover and come back stronger.

Walkup played for Greece at the 2023 World Cup and at the 2024 Olympic Qualifiers and Olympic Games, where the team reached the quarterfinals.

His likely replacement is teammate Tyler Dorsey, who previously played at EuroBasket 2022 and the 2024 Olympics, where he was Greece’s second-best scorer (13.6 ppg), behind Giannis Antetokounmpo (29.3).

Another option is Naz Mitrou-Long, unless the federation chooses to naturalize another player.
