UNICS Kazan president Yevgeny Bogachev talked to Izvestia about Errick McCollum and the 2020-21 season budget. The 32-year-old guard, based in Russia since 2018, will become a free agent in July.

“We are in constant touch with his agent,” he pointed out, “He is ready to accept a salary cut. This is commendable, given the financial situation in European basketball.”

Both the 7DAYS EuroCup and the VTB United League seasons ended prematurely, due to the coronavirus pandemic. UNICS was among the eight teams qualified for the EuroCup quarterfinals, also ranked fourth in the VTB table.

“In seven to ten days our budget for the next season will become more clear,” he added painting the overall picture on the next season, “Then we will be able to put a firm basis on new contracts.”

McCollum averaged 17.1 points, 4 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per EuroCup game leading his side through the regular season and the Top 16. He went up to 19.9 points per match in his second VTB campaign.
