Virtus in the market to cover Nico Mannion’s absence

Virtus Bologna guard Nico Mannion’s return to action is taking longer than expected and the EuroCup powerhouse is looking to sign a new player to fill the gap on their roster.

According to Virtus head coach Sergio Scariolo, the team is searching for someone preferably young who will provide something more than a temporary option.

“Mannion won’t be there at the start of the championship and so we need a player to avoid putting ‘squeezing’ the others,” Scariolo said after Virtus’ 92 – 72 prep win over Happy Casa Brindisi Friday (3/9), per multiple reports by Italian media. “We are looking on the market for an element to be included, a point guard who can also remain in the future. Because of that we focus on young people who can give something important, rather than a veteran addition.”

Mannion has yet to fully recover from the after-effect of an intestinal infection that had him physically weakened and prevented him from joining Virtus’ training camp.
