MoraBanc Andorra has been in talks with Gal Mekel, per Eurohoops sources.

Andorra recently confirmed point guard Sergi Garcia to be sidelined for about ten weeks. The search for a suitable replacement has been narrowed to Mekel.

Garcia, 24, suffering a hamstring injury was merely the latest setback for the team coached by Ibon Navarro. The team based in Andorra la Vella, off to a 0-4 start to the 2021-22 ACB Regular Season, was already missing Nacho Llovet and Tyson Perez.

Mekel, 33, last played for Unicaja Malaga. He spent the previous couple of seasons at the Andalusia club. Last year, the experienced Israeli point guard put up 7.7 points, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per 7DAYS EuroCup contest, plus 6.0 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per match in the Spanish League.

The Israeli player had logged 35 games played in the NBA attached to the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans earlier in his career. He registered 2.3 points and 2.2 assists per NBA game. Also, he carries the experience of 35 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague appearances at Maccabi Tel Aviv, Nizhny Novgorod, and Crvena Zvezda. Other teams include Gran Canaria, Zenit Saint Petersburg, Benetton Treviso, Maccabi Haifa, Reggio Emilia, and Hapoel Gilboa Galil.

Andorra is scheduled to face Gran Canaria at home tomorrow, Sunday, and visit Joventut Badalona next week. The Round 5 and Round 6 fixtures of the ACB Regular Season lead up to the EuroCup Regular Season Round 1 game against Lokomotiv Kuban on the road, planned for October 20.
