Cluj-Napoca keeps Karel Guzman and adds Leonardo Meindl

Busy day for U-BT Cluj-Napoca with a new addition and another player confirmed to run it back next season.

Cuban shooting guard Karel Guzman penned a one-year contract extension, the team announced Friday. Heading to his third season displaying his talents in Europe and since landing in Cluj-Napoca, he will debut in the 7DAYS EuroCup. Apart from being crowned champion of Romania’s Liga Nationala in 2021 and 2022, he logged 18 games played in the Basketball Champions League emerging as a key player of the team over the last couple of seasons.

Also, Brazilian forward Leonardo Meindl was announced as the latest summer addition to the squad. Entering his third campaign in Europe as well, he is coming off a two-year stint at Urbas Fuenlabrada. Prior to the latest moves, Emanuel Cate, Nandor Kuti, Eduard Roschnafsky, Jordan Taylor, Victor Sanders, Andrija Stipanovic, and Patrick Richard were confirmed in the 2022-23 roster and the next edition of EuroCup.

Elsewhere, Slask Wroclaw secured the services of Jeremiah Martin. The Memphis product and former NBA player of the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers inked a one-year contract. The huge move for the Polish champions was completed after the signings of Justin Bibbs, Daniel Golebiowski, and Jakub Niziol. Returning players are Maciej Bender, Aleksander Dziewa, Jakub Karolak, Lukasz Kolenda, Ivan Ramljak, and Szymon Tomczak.

The next EuroCup season is scheduled to tip off on 11 October. The second-tier continental competition of Euroleague Basketball will start with the twenty participating teams evenly split into two groups.
