Following the departure of Yonatan Alon, Hapoel Midtown Jerusalem officially appointed veteran Serbian strategist Sasa Obradovic as its new head coach on Monday, heading to the 2026–27 installment of the BKT EuroCup.

The 57-year-old play-caller inked a long-term contract through the 2028–29 season. He brings over two decades of elite European coaching experience to Israel, having previously managed EuroLeague franchises such as AS Monaco, Crvena Zvezda mts/Meridianbet, ALBA Berlin, and RheinEnergie Koln. His extensive resume features multiple championship titles across Europe, including two French championships, a German championship, and five domestic cup victories. Notably, he orchestrated Monaco’s historic rise to the EuroLeague Final Four in 2023.

“I am very happy to join Hapoel Jerusalem,” he stated. “I chose Hapoel because I was very impressed by the vision, standards, and high aspirations of the club. I believe wholeheartedly in the great future that awaits us together in the coming years. Our goal is clear. We want to build a strong, high-quality, talented, and fighting team under my philosophy that will compete for all titles.”

The deal was first reported by Moshe Barda.

Elsewhere in the EuroCup field, ratiopharm Ulm picked up 31-year-old guard Devin Schmidt to a two-year contract following his ProA championship and promotion with Phoenix Hagen. The American-German sharpshooter averaged 14.6 points while converting 39.2% of his three-point attempts last season. Eager to debut at the continental level and the top-flight division of Germany, he joins head coach Ty Harrelson’s squad to provide elite long-range shooting and quick scoring creation.
