Jaka Lakovic has been officially confirmed as the new head coach of La Laguna Tenerife, shortly following the departure of Txus Vidorreta. The deal was announced on Monday.

The former standout EuroLeague playmaker brings extensive knowledge from Spain’s Liga Endesa to his new role after managing over 100 ACB games. He transitions to the rival Canary Island squad following a highly successful coaching tenure with Dreamland Gran Canaria, where he secured a historic 7DAYS EuroCup championship and later reached another major European final. This strategic appointment positions Tenerife to remain a formidable opponent across multiple competitions during the upcoming 2026–27 campaign, capitalizing on his proven tactical ability to guide ambitious rosters deep into postseason action.

Before his recent coaching achievements, the Ljubljana native spent three seasons developing ratiopharm Ulm into a consistent contender in Germany’s easyCredit BBL. His sideline career originally launched as an assistant, contributing to a landmark gold medal performance for the Slovenian senior national team in EuroBasket 2017, before taking over RETAbet Bilbao as head coach in 2018. On the court, he earned ultimate continental glory during a decorated decade representing top powerhouses like Panathinaikos and Barcelona, being crowned a EuroLeague champion with the Catalan giants back in 2010.

His new multi-year contract is guaranteed for the next two seasons and includes a team option for a third year. This agreement marks an exciting, fresh chapter for the ambitious organization as they prepare to tackle both the challenging domestic and continental tournament formats awaiting them in the near future.
