Olympiacos Piraeus and Giorgos Bartzokas are very close to a deal for two and a half seasons that will bring the Greek coach back to the club according to Eurohoops sources. Bartzokas had been a free agent since he was fired by Khimki Moscow in January 2019.

Bartzokas was previously at the helm of Olympiacos from 2012 to 2014, becoming the first Greek coach to win the EuroLeague when the “Reds” claimed the back-to-back continental title in 2013. He parted ways with the club early in the 2014-2015 season following an elimination to archrival Panathinaikos in the Greek Cup quarterfinals.

In 2015, Bartzokas became the head coach of Lokomotiv Kuban and led the team to the first EuroLeague Final Four in the history of the club. In 2016-2017 he coached Barcelona, before taking over Khimki in the 2017 offseason.
