Fenerbahce Beko guard Kostas Sloukas said that while he has one year left on his contract with the Turkish powerhouse, his stay with the team is linked with whether coach Zeljko Obradovic will remain on board.

“There is a rumor that I will return to Olympiacos or play for Panathinaikos. I read and listen to the scenarios that are out there but what I know is that I have a guaranteed contract with Fenerbahce for one more season. Because of the unique case, there are various fleeting thoughts on my mind but there is a contract. If, of course, coach Obradovic leaves, as it is strongly rumored, the discussion changes,” Sloukas said in an interview with Greek newspaper “Ta Nea.”

Sloukas also talked about the coronavirus pandemic that also affected Fenerbahce. “It appears that my teammates brought the coronavirus from Moscow when we faced Khimki. I didn’t play in that game, I stayed in Istanbul. But it’s a fact that we were afraid. As it turned out, the problem was undermined in Turkey and this is why leagues continued like nothing was happening. I hope everything goes well.” The Turkish League was the last basketball championship in Europe to shut down.

Regarding the 2019-2020 EuroLeague restarting at some point, Sloukas mentioned that the season should be over. “I think that it’s very difficult to play again because the situation has gone way too far all over Europe and a potential resumption carries dangers. I believe that [the season in] EuroLeague should be canceled, one way or another.”
