Icelandic guard Martin Hermannsson signed a two-year contract extension with Valencia, the team announced Friday.

Per the press release: “Valencia Basket has reached an agreement with Martin Hermannsson to extend his contract for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2024, so the Icelandic international point guard will return to the discipline of Valencia Basket after two seasons as Taronja in which he has played a total of 120 games. Hermannsson arrived in Valencia in the summer of 2020 from the German team Alba Berlin and has credited a card of 8.2 points, 1.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 8.5 efficiency in his time with Valencia Basket.”

Since naming Alex Mumbru as the new head coach, Valencia launched preparations for the 2022-23 season and the return to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague by re-signing veteran Belgian point guard Sam Van Rossom and moving in explosive point guard Chris Jones from LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne.

Hermannsson, 27, was the next move. After playing college basketball at LIU from 2014 to 2016, he returned to Europe and build up his career from the lower divisions of France to joining Alba Berlin in 2018. In 2020, a couple of years later, he made his way to the Oranges, located in Valencia.

Previous EuroLeague experience stems from both Berlin and Valencia, while the 2021-22 campaign included 8.7 points, 5.2 assists, 1.0 rebounds, and 0.6 steals per game in the 7DAYS EuroCup. As for the previous edition of Spain’s Liga Endesa ACB, he put up 10.3 points, 3.7 assists, 1.7 rebounds, and 0.8 steals per game.
