Jan Vesely lands in Barcelona

Confirming the chatter of recent weeks, FC Barcelona has added Jan Vesely, the team announced Friday.

Vesely, 32, inked a three-year contract, as noted by the Catalonia powerhouse in the official announcement. He has been heading to Barca since late May, as reported by Eurohoops, and was recently released by Fenerbahce Beko.

Per the press release: “FC Barcelona and Jan Vesely have reached an agreement for the next three seasons until 30 June 2025, whereby the 32-year-old Czech center (2.13 m) arrives as a free agent from Fenerbahçe, where he has been playing for the last eight seasons.

Great season finale

Vesely recently won the Turkish championship with a 3-1 win over Anadolu Efes in the final series. He was named MVP after averaging 16.2 points and 6.5 rebounds in the four games.

In 22 EuroLeague outings, he had 13.6 points and 6-1 rebounds, making him the fourth most highly rated player in the competition after Nikola Mirotic, Larkin and Tavares.

Long career

Vesely is a classic of European basketball who has played 276 EuroLeague games with Partizan Belgrade (54) and Fenerbahçe (222), winning the title with the latter in 2017 under Zeljko Obradovic.

In 2018/19 was named MVP after averaging 12.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and a rating of 17.7 in 25 minutes per game. He was picked to the All EuroLeague Team in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Vesely has also won four Turkish leagues (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022), and three cups (2016, 2019 and 2020).”
