T.J. Parker has inked a three-year contract extension to continue as the head coach of LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, the team announced Wednesday.

“Being here for ten years and now three more years, this is a genuine sign of confidence of the management, a reward for a successful job all these years spent at the club,” he mentioned, per the press release, roughly translated via Google, “I feel good here, this is my team, my city, I got married here, I see my children growing up here.”

Parker, 38, after a short playing career, focused on a coaching career in 2013. He became an assistant coach at ASVEL and worked under J.D. Jackson and Zvezdan Mitrovic. Following the 2019-20 season, he was promoted to the position of head coach.

“This is a natural development, a mark of respect for someone who has won everything since becoming the head coach,” said his older brother and team president Tony Parker, “T.J. has our full confidence. He has grown a lot here and continues to improve every day.”

The 2021-22 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season saw the French club rank 14th overall behind an 8-20 record. Bringing in Nando de Colo earlier in the offseason is likely to generate an improved W-L tally in the 2022-23 edition of Europe’s premier club continental competition.

Under the head-coaching guidance of T.J. Parker, ASVEL clinched back-to-back domestic league championships topping both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 editions of Betclic Elite LNB Pro A and also lifted the French Cup in 2021. As an assistant, he was part of six more domestic titles.
