The former Murray State standout, Isaiah Canaan pens a two-year deal to join Olympiacos, the team announced Friday.
Canaan, 31, was indeed expected to sign with the Reds, as reported by Eurohoops. The incoming guard, also considered a possible target for Fenerbahce Beko, is the replacement for outgoing Tyler Dorsey.
The experienced guard split the 2021-22 season between UNICS and Galatasaray Nef. Putting up 11.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.2 blocks per contest displayed his efforts in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague while adding 12.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.1 blocks per VTB United League game over 12 appearances, and 11.3 points, 2.2 assists, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.6 steals per BSL game over 12 appearances in Turkey’s domestic league.
Concluding his NCAA career, Canaan was selected by the Houston Rockets with the 34th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. He logged 238 games played in the NBA between the Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls, Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Milwaukee Bucks, prior to opting to move his talents overseas and join UNICS for the 2020-21 season. Career averages of 8.2 points, 1.9 assists, 1.9 rebounds, 0.6 steals, and 0.1 blocks per contest statistically describe his experience in the NBA.
Landing in Russia, Canaan lasted the entire 2020-21 season but departed midway through the 2021-22 season due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He joined Galata for the rest of the season. Immediately bouncing back to a EuroLeague outfit became the next move in his successful career.
