Danish guard Gabriel Iffe Lundberg is the latest new player for Virtus Segafredo Bologna, the team announced Thursday confirming our earlier report.

Lundberg, 27, last played for the Phoenix Suns becoming the first Danish-born player in the NBA. Appearing in four games and lasting for 44 minutes late in the 2021-22 NBA Regular Season, he averaged 3.3 points, 2.8 assists, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.8 steals per contest.

Back in Europe and joining the team based in Bologna on its return to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague after 14 years, he will raise his total of campaigns in Europe’s premier club continental competition to three. Carrying the experience of 39 appearances with CSKA in 2020-21 and 2021-22 shaped the first two seasons and produced 9.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 0.9 steals per game.

In 2021, Lundberg was crowned VTB United League champion with CSKA. One year earlier, he helped Iberostar Tenerife capture the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Between the team based in Moscow and the Canary Islands outfit, the stint at Enea Zastal BC Zielona Gora produced a couple of domestic titles, the Cup and Super Cup, the former with an MVP distinction attachment. Further back, he was a key player for Baxi Manresa earning the promotion to Spain’s top-flight division in 2016.

A couple of additions in the paint, Jordan Mickey and Ismael Bako were the first two simmer signings of Virtus Bologna. The explosive guard became the third newcomer for the team coached by Sergio Scariolo.
