Crvena Zvezda asks Euroleague to lift player-registration ban

By Eurohoops team/ info@eurohoops.net

Crvena Zvezda sent a letter to EuroLeague acting CEO Marshall Glickman, asking for the suspension of the decision of the EuroLeague Financial Panel to extend the player-registration ban imposed on the club.

Earlier on Wednesday, EuroLeague announced that Crvena Zvezda is sanctioned with a prohibition to register new players and coaches until February 28, 2023, due to committing “several violations.” This decision doesn’t let Red Star add newly acquired star guard Facu Campazz to its EuroLeague roster.

Per Zvezda:

KK Crvena zvezda Meridianbet informs the public that immediately after the arrival of the decision by the EL financial panel and the imposed penalty (according to which our club does not have the right to register new players until February 28, 2023), the club sent an urgent request to the Euroleague CEO (CEO) Marshall Glikman, as one of our legal options, to use his right and authority and suspend the decision of the financial panel based on Article 20 F of the Euroleague Disciplinary Regulations!

KK Crvena zvezda fulfilled all financial obligations and demands of EL, about which Marshall Glickman himself was fully informed and informed, who expressed the same in public. That’s why we now expect a positive and quick decision by the acting CEO of the Euroleague!

EuroLeague president Dejan Bodiroga, is fully informed about all the steps we are taking as a club.

The sentence that is imposed does not correspond to the offense committed. When determining the punishment, the financial panel had a very wide and gradual selection of sanctions and chose the most severe one, which does not fully correspond to the factual situation!

Any other sanction would achieve the purpose of punishing an administrative violation, and the purpose of punishment is the fulfillment of financial obligations, which KK Crvena zvezda certainly fulfilled!

KK Crvena zvezda Meridianebt would be absolutely surprised by the absence of a quick and positive reaction from Marshall Glickman and Dejan Bodiroga.

Meanwhile, Zvezda fans have begun the hashtag #FreeFacu, which is shared also by players of the team like Nemanja Nedovic.
