Bayern Munich defeated Baskonia 76 – 68 on the road to improve to 2-1 in the EuroLeague regular season. The winning side finished the game with a 4-17 run over the last seven minutes to get the victory.

In a low-scoring game, Carsen Edwards made a difference with his 14 points. He had struggled in the first two matches with five points on 2-17 shots overall.

“Every win is important but to be able to get this one on the road is really nice for us to help us build and fix our mistakes,” Edwards said. Sylvain Francisco dropped 12 points, Niels Giffey had 11 points while Nick Weiler-Babb grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go with his four points and four assists.

Vanja Marinkovic scored 13 points, Tadas Sedekerskis finished with 10 points and eight rebounds while Chima Moneke had 10 points as well for Baskonia. Their team led 62 – 52 near the end of the third quarter and was up 64 – 59 with seven minutes to play but collapsed afterward and ended up scoring just six points in the fourth period.

“There were two key moments when they had the advantage in the scoreboard but we were able to stay focused and we were able to come back,” Bayern coach Pablo Laso said. “In the last four minutes were able to contain their best scorers and execute on offense. We know how difficult it is to win in this arena but we played with the same attitude and we showed from the beginning that we’re ready to play.”

Bayern made a 0 – 10 run to go ahead 64 – 69 and, with the score 66 – 69, had eight unanswered points to secure the win.

“We didn’t control the defensive rebound,” Baskonia coach Joan Penarroya said. “We played bad in the last quarter.”
