Georgios Bartzokas spoke about Tyler Dorsey’s situation for the first time after Olympiacos left the guard out of the squad for Friday’s EuroLeague game against Barcelona and arranged his immediate return home.
Dorsey had publicly responded to comments made about him on an online show, with his response prompting the club to take action. His future remains uncertain despite a contract running through 2027.
Asked whether Jean Montero’s outstanding performance in the comeback win over Valencia had contributed to Dorsey’s reaction, Bartzokas dismissed that suggestion.
“I don’t think the way Montero played had that kind of role in what happened,” he said.
The Olympiacos coach declined to criticize Dorsey, stressing that the team takes priority ahead of the trip to Palau Blaugrana.
“I think you know by now that I never speak badly about anyone who has worn the Olympiacos jersey, and I won’t do so now. At this point, with tomorrow’s game coming up, we all need to understand that our team, Olympiacos, comes above everything. And if anyone has to uphold that more than anyone else, it’s me.”
Bartzokas also made clear that the club’s management would determine the next steps.
“So, obviously, I’ll focus on those who are here. We have 15 players here, and we’ll try to do the best we can for our team. Then we’ll see what happens next, which at this moment is being determined by the management, not by me.”
