Sergio Scariolo apologizes for Real Madrid’s season: “We haven’t lived up to the history of this club”

Real Madrid’s season in the national championship ended sooner than expected. After reaching the Final Four and, just as happened in the Super Cup and Copa del Rey, returning home empty-handed, the Whites were eliminated in the first round of the ACB playoffs by La Laguna Tenerife.

This hadn’t happened in 18 years. A cruel end to a rollercoaster season of ups and downs. Sergio Scariolo, in his first year back at the club, has apologized for what happened in recent weeks and hinted that he will remain on the bench.

He did so in a statement on his social media, making it clear that the team’s performance had been much lower than expected.

This past week we have made it clear that we haven’t lived up to the history of this club and the constant support of the fans, and we apologize for that,” the Real Madrid coach commented in his statement.

I regret not being able to help the team regain its competitive edge after the tremendous effort of the Final Four, and I take full responsibility,” the coach explained.

We have to improve on our mistakes, and I’m the first to do so,” he clarified, leaving the door open to his future at Real Madrid.
