Daniel Hackett has extended his contract with Virtus Bologna for the 2026β2027 season, securing his role as a locker room leader for a sixth year.
Arriving under the Vu Nere in March 2022, following his departure from CSKA, the veteran combo guard has already accumulated 329 appearances, positioning him to break into the franchiseβs top ten all-time list. His decorated tenure includes 7DAYS EuroCup and LBA UnipolSai titles.
This latest renewal, announced on Wednesday, follows a reflective period where the American-Italian playmaker evaluated his physical drive before deciding to push toward new competitive heights.

During his 2025-26 EuroLeague campaign, Hackett provided stability by averaging 3.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over 34 games, including two starts. He shot an impressive 40.4 percent from beyond the arc while logging nearly 15 minutes per contest. This productive season allowed him to surpass one thousand career assists, climbing to 15th on the all-time leaderboard. Simultaneously, he moved into 14th place for total games played.
Known for physical play and perimeter defense, the 1.96-meter former USC Trojans standout remains an elite backcourt presence at 38. In addition, he holds the distinction of being the highest-scoring Italian player in modern EuroLeague history. His continental success is highlighted by a EuroLeague in 2019, to go with domestic titles in three countries, and multiple Most Valuable Player accolades.
At the senior international level, the experienced guard spearheaded Italy at three EuroBasket tournaments and the FIBA World Cup 2019, following a bronze medal in the FIBA U20 European Championship 2007.
