Real Madrid are reportedly targeting two of the ACB’s top offensive performers as they begin reshaping their basketball roster following a disappointing trophyless campaign.
The club’s new basketball leadership, headed by Juan Carlos Sánchez with Rudy Fernández serving as assistant sporting director ahead of Alberto Herreros’ expected arrival, has already begun planning for next season after Madrid finished without a title for the first time in 15 years.
While the future of head coach Sergio Scariolo remains unresolved—despite having two years left on his contract, with a meeting with Sánchez expected to determine whether he stays or departs—the club is actively exploring the market for reinforcements and MARCA has unveiled two names.
One of the names high on Madrid’s shortlist is Baskonia forward Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot. The 31-year-old French wing, who stands 1.98 meters tall, is set to become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of June.
Luwawu-Cabarrot finished as the ACB’s leading scorer this season, averaging 18.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals and a performance rating of 16.6. He posted similarly impressive numbers in the EuroLeague, averaging 18.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 40.2% from three-point range, compared to 38% in domestic competition.
The French international has reportedly attracted strong interest from several EuroLeague clubs, including ASVEL Villeurbanne, Partizan Belgrade and Fenerbahçe, with the latter two believed to have already submitted offers.
Luwawu-Cabarrot recently changed representation, leaving Sphera to join Gersh, formerly known as You First. Although Baskonia’s ACB matching rights would remain in effect, Los Blancos could reportedly compensate the Vitoria-based club if a deal is completed before free agency, allowing Baskonia to receive a transfer fee instead of losing the player for nothing.
Another player on Madrid’s radar is UCAM Murcia guard David DeJulius. The 26-year-old American, who holds a Slovak passport and therefore counts as a domestic player under ACB regulations, enjoyed a breakout season after signing a 1+1 contract with Murcia in the summer of 2025.
DeJulius finished as the league’s second-leading scorer, averaging 17.7 points, 4.3 assists, 1.8 rebounds and a 16.6 performance rating while shooting 37.9% from beyond the arc.
Several EuroLeague teams have reportedly inquired about his availability, with Real Madrid among the clubs monitoring his situation. Madrid experienced his scoring ability firsthand in their last league meeting, a 131-123 victory in which DeJulius produced an outstanding performance of 27 points, five rebounds, 12 assists, drew 11 fouls and posted a game-high efficiency rating of 39.
The guard is currently recovering from a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot, an injury suffered during the second game of UCAM Murcia’s ACB quarterfinal playoff series against Barcelona. He is expected to be sidelined for approximately three months and is unlikely to return before September.
