Hapoel Tel Aviv has extended Tomer Ginat’s contract until the end of the 2029-2030 season, the club announced.

Ginat is one of Hapoel’s icons, having played for the team from 2016 to 2020, and then again from 2022, after two seasons with Metropolitans 92.

He managed to win the EuroCup with Hapoel in 2025, was named to the Israeli League’s first team on four occasions, and has one appearance in the second best team.

Hapoel’s statement

Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv Basketball Club is pleased to announce the extension of Tomer Ginat’s contract for the next four years, until the end of the 2029/30 season.

Ginat, one of the club’s greatest symbols, will continue to wear the red jersey in the coming years and continue to lead the team both on and off the court. With the completion of the new contract, Tomer will complete eight years in his current tenure, which will add to the four years in his first tenure at the club, totaling 12 years in Hapoel’s uniform, a figure that more than anything illustrates the special bond between the player and the club.

Throughout his years at Hapoel, Ginat has been part of the club’s greatest moments. He won the EuroCup with the team while averaging 8.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists, with a 65.4% shooting percentage from two-point range. This victory led the club to a historic participation in the EuroLeague, where this season Ginat averaged 3.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.4 assists, with a 59.4% shooting percentage from two-point range, on the way to the playoffs.

Beyond his professional achievements, Tomer represents everything Hapoel Tel Aviv aspires to be: uncompromising commitment, leadership, passion, character, and fighting spirit. He grew up with the club, was there in complex moments, led it to peak moments, and over the years became one of the most identifiable figures with the red color.

The contract extension is much more than a continuation with one of the best players in Israel; it is a statement of continuity, identity, and the way the club continues to build its future around players who best represent its values. Tomer, we are proud you continue the journey with us. Yalla Hapoel.

Tomer Ginat: “Hapoel has always been my home. It is a place dear to my heart, and I am very happy to continue here. It is the natural thing for me. Being part of the club for so long is very exciting and special for me. The time has come to complete the mission in Israel and win the championship! The goal is for the bond between me and Hapoel to continue for many more years, and I can’t wait for the continuation of the journey.”

Professional director George Chinas: “The captain stays home. Tomer Ginat, the symbol of Hapoel, has committed to a lifelong contract with his family. Promises are meant to be kept, and Tomer is a man of honor. He will be our leader in the journey to win the championship.”

Team coach Dimitris Itoudis: “I can’t imagine Hapoel and its future without Tomer Ginat. We as a club and the fans are aware of his sacrifice and what he has done for Hapoel. He always puts Hapoel as a top priority, and his extension is not only a matter of faith and commitment but also professionally. Tomer is a tough guy who fights through injuries, and I wish him to stay healthy and continue helping Hapoel for many years to come.”
