Abu Dhabi will be the center of basketball in the coming days, at least for EuroLeague, as it hosts the first EuroLeague Super Cup.
One of the participants is Dubai, which will be the host and will face Real Madrid on Friday in the second semifinal.
Before the start of the tournament Thomas Walkup, who joined Dubai this summer from Olympiacos after a saga that lasted weeks, gave a statement to the media. The brilliant playmaker spoke about his feelings for the Greek club.
“Overall, I am very happy with the time I had at Olympiacos. I still think about the people there, even the fans, the management, everyone. It was like a family to me. They welcomed me with open arms. Every chapter in life must close. I have no complaints about anything. I have a lot of respect for the ownership and the club of Olympiacos.”
He also added that he thinks of Olympiacos as family and that he talked with Georgios Bartzokas upon his departure.
“I didn’t feel the need to explain my side. Some people feel a certain way, but it’s okay. Only respect for the club. I spoke with everyone, thanked them. When something comes to an end, it doesn’t mean you forget everything you’ve been through. We had difficult and amazing moments. Those are not forgotten because a chapter closed. The players, the coaches are family to me. I called the coach and thanked him. I expressed my gratitude.”
He emphasized that the EuroLeague title is Dubai’s goal this season.
“The goal is to win the title, that’s why I came here. The way the team is built is excellent. It’s the most talented team in the EuroLeague in my opinion. We are making progress every day.”
