Coach Bartzokas and Barcelona part ways

The season ended in Barcelona, the team failed to reach its goals and after missing also the Liga Endesa semifinals, it’s the end of the road for coach Giorgos Bartzokas.

The team faced many injuries woes and was build with many restrictions due to existing contracts. Bartzokas accepted the challenge to lead one of the biggest clubs in the world, but now it’s just a matter of time for their divorce to become official.

Despite having signed a two year deal with an option for a third, Bartzokas will be released and it remains to be seen what will be the next stop in his career. One of the possibilities is for him to become the coach of the Greek national team, which still not has anyone sitting on its bench.

Meanwhile, Barcelona has already started the search for its new coach and the main candidates are two. One of them is Sarunas Jasikevicius, who flirted also one year ago with the Catalans, was their number one target, but in the end their deal was not concluded, mainly because of the difference between them in the general direction about the project. The other target is Sito Alonso who is currently sitting on the bench of Baskonia.
