Bobby Brown: “I am humbled and blessed to play for Olympiacos”

By Nikos Varlas/ varlas@eurohoops.net

Back in 2014, Bobby Brown almost had a deal with Olympiacos. It didn’t happen then, but being part of the Reds was his destiny.

Brown and Olympiacos finally have a deal and the former member of the Houston Rockets is packing his bags for Greece. Before entering the plane in order to finish the season strong in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, he talked to Eurohoops about his new team, Vasilis Spanoulis, the EuroLeague and Olympiacos fans.

How do you feel that something which was about to happen several years ago, is happening now and you are a member of the Reds?

“Ι feel good that is finally going to happen. It’s been reported by the media four years ago about me joining forces with Billy (Spanoulis) and Olympiacos. It’s finally about to come true. We will play together. I spoke with him about an hour ago for the whole situation and joining the team. I am ready to get there and finally make it work”.

What made you accept the offer and what was your opinion and view of the team during the last few years? They are always a contender despite not having one of the top budgets compared to other EuroLeague powerhouses…

“It’s Olympiacos! One of the best teams in Europe, it has great tradition, it has won titles and has amazing fans. Who wouldn’t want to play in that type of atmosphere? And overall, Athens and Greece are beautiful. I have played for Aris, I have been in Athens and now I get to make the city my home for the rest of the season. It’s going to be a blessing. I have been following Euroleague since I left Siena and I am humbled and blessed to be able to join a powerhouse team like Olympiacos”.

Olympiakos lost the Greek Cup and didn’t win any title the previous season as well. How can you contribute and help them from now? Do you believe that Olympiacos is capable to reach one more EuroLeague final and win the Greek league?

“I know they have lost the Cup title, I have been keeping up with everything, I have teammates and friends who are still playing in Europe. I just think that I can come in, bring that overall experience and leadership, Being a playmaker like I am and also scoring the ball, playing defense and just being a great guy on the locker room, that can help us win”.

– Spanoulis is the most clutch and successful player of the recent EuroLeague history? How does it feel to play alongside him and do you think you guys can build a good backcourt duo?

“Definitely Spanoulis is the most clutch player. Like I said I have been following games and I have been watching the EuroLeague. Not only in the news and the social media, I even have EuroLeague TV as well. Playing alongside him, we are going to be a great perimeter duo. We are both playmakers, we both can score, we are both threats on the floor. And I think I can help the team to succeed and we can also succeed as a duo. The ultimate goal is to win the EuroLeague title and the Greek League title. I am ready to get there and start practicing with the team, work with the team and be in that atmosphere again. It’s not easy to get to Olympiacos or any big team in Europe. And to the Olympiacos fans, I have to say you guys are amazing, I have played against you and I admire you. Bobby Brown is coming and I am ready to win games and win titles. See you soon!”
