Unicaja Malaga announced today (9/3) that center Giorgi Shermadini will stay out of action for six to eight weeks. This means that he’ll miss the rest of the EuroLeague regular season that is completed on April 6.

Shermadini had suffered a fracture of the fourth metatarsal bone of his left foot and recent tests confirmed that his recovery period will keep him out for the aforementioned timeframe.

The Georgian center’s injury comes at a critical moment for Unicaja Malaga that is making a run for the EuroLeague playoffs. With six games (including tonight’s match on the road vs. CSKA Moscow) remaining for the completion of the regular season, the Andalusians are 10th in the standings with a 10 – 14 record.

Shermadini averages 6.5 points plus 3.5 rebounds in 14:24 minutes per game in EuroLeague.
