Zalgiris Kaunas is headed to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague playoffs for the first time since the format became the standard prior to the 2004-05 season. One of the reasons for its success has been the play of Aaron White, who has been playing great for Zalgiris at power forward.

White has learned a lot about European hoops, including about the legacy that his team’s next opponent and its archrival, CSKA Moscow.

“I believe that for the past few years, they have been the top team in Europe, always at the top of the EuroLeague standings and going to every Final Four,” White told EuroLeague.net. “It will be a great challenge for myself and for the club. We all have the aspiration to play at the highest level and make it to the Final Four, be at the top of the EuroLeague. It is a good challenge for all the players on our roster, and we are going for it.”

Coach Sarunas Jasikevicus was a legendary player and has started his coaching career with great results. How is it to play for him, a guy who did everything he did as a player?

“I really like playing for him. I didn’t grow up in Europe but had heard of him and all of his success as a player. He has started to also have success as a coach, too. He is really smart and has a great basketball mind. He knows the game and anticipated a lot of things before they happen. I think that a lot of things that helped him become a great player are helping him as a coach – seeing the floor, seeing matchups and putting players in the right position. I give him a lot of credit. Going back to a previous question, I also have a good year because he put me in a position to succeed, asking me just to do what I am best at. I don’t have to do anything outside of what I am really good at. I am happy I am able to play for him.”, said, White.
