Facu Campazzo: “I’d trade the assists record for the Final”

VITORIA-GASTEIZ–  Setting records is great but playing in championship games is much much better.

Real Madrid guard Facu Campazzo set a couple of assists records in the win of his team over Fenerbahce Beko in the third-place game of the EuroLeague Final Four. The Argentinian guard posted a new career-high 15 assists, registering a record for more assists in a Final Four match.

Yet he would exchange this kind of individual achievements for one shot at the title.

“I’d trade the assists record for playing in the Final,” Campazzo said to Eurohoops. “I always say it. I leave the statistics to you, the journalists, who know to do what’s best with them. For me, it’s secondary.

Campazzo admitted that it was hard to play in a third-place match.

“Very, very difficult. Motivationally… this is what we had. We can’t do more. Obviously, I’d have liked to play in the Final tonight. We had to honor the third place. We had to honor the people who came to see us from so far away. Who paid so much money to come and see us. The least we could do was to get a win and play good basketball.”
